House Fire Leads to Major Drugs Haul

By Ben Aulakh

A blaze at a house in Birmingham has led to two men being arrested and 800 cannabis plants being seized by police.

Officers were called to reports of a fire at the address in Tipton, West Birmingham on the evening of Monday 4 January at approximately 6.00pm.

Police were called after officers from West Midlands Fire Service – who were already in attendance – heard voices inside the burning building.

The men aged 20 and 16 were found uninjured inside the building along with the drugs, which had an estimated street value of £100,000; a large amount of drug growing equipment was also found.

They have both been charged with the cultivation of cannabis and have been remanded in police custody.

Sergeant David Rogers from West Midlands Police said, “Fortunately the fire was only small and the Fire Service were able to put it out rapidly.

"The plants and equipment seized have been destroyed and the two men will be facing prosecution."
