Teenagers Wanted for Broadcasting

By Ben Aulakh

Teenagers in Warwickshire are being encouraged to take to the airwaves on a radio station run especially for young people.

Abbey Radio in Kenilworth is calling on anyone between the ages of 12 and 18 in the county to volunteer for the station, record a show and possibly even hear it broadcast live on air.

The station was set up in 2008 by Warwickshire County Council’s Youth and Community Service to encourage youngsters at Kenilworth Community Centre to get involved.

Andy Norman, Community Worker for the Youth Service said, “Young people at Kenilworth Youth Centre have really embraced Radio Abbey, so we’re keen to expand that enthusiasm.”

At the moment listeners can tune into the radio on the internet on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7pm until 9pm; however staff are looking to extend the stations’ hours.

To find out how to get involved in Radio Abbey, contact Andy Norman on 07920 071110, email andynorman@warwickshire.gov.uk or visit www.radioabbey.com
