Three Gold Raids In Six Days Terrify Women

By Ben Aulakh

Masked raiders burst into the house of a 52 year old Asian woman in Birmingham yesterday, making off with car keys, a laptop computer and jewellery.

The incident happened at around 1pm on Wednesday February 16 at an address in Kingsbury Road, Erdington.

The three white assailants, who were wearing face coverings and gloves, broke through the rear of the premises, threatening the terrified woman before stealing a number of valuables.

The theft is the third such incident in the city in just the last 6 days; a 46 year old Asian woman from Four Oaks was assaulted during a theft at around 7.45pm on Saturday February 12.

Four men broke through the front door shouting "where's the gold?” one of the offenders assaulted the woman, grabbing two gold chains from around her neck before escaping.

Detective Sergeant Jim Hill from North Birmingham CID said, “The victims in all these incidents have been left terrified.

“The offence times and nature of them are very unusual, and although there was no mention of gold jewellery in the last two incidents, it is suspected they are all linked.”

The main offender in the first incident is described as black, 5ft 9ins to 5ft 11ins tall, clean shaven and was wearing a dark hooded top and dark jogging bottoms.

Three masked men also broke into an address in Highland Road, Erdington on Monday February 14 between 1:45pm and 2:15pm.

As the victim ran out of the front door to call a neighbour to help she was pushed by one of the offenders as she went past him.

The two white and one Asian offender are described as in their early 20s, faces half covered with white cloths and hoods pulled up.

Detective Hill added, “We would urge anyone who may have seen men acting suspiciously in the areas beforehand to come forward. Information you have, no matter how small, could assist.”

Anyone with information should call North Birmingham CID on 0345 113 5000 or crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
