Bar Licence Suspended

By Ben Aulakh

A city centre bar in Nottingham has been closed for up to 28 days after a glass attack prompted the city’s police to ask for its licence to be reviewed.

Nottinghamshire Police applied to the City Council’s Licensing Authority for an immediate review of licence for the Tantra Lounge and Bar, based on Victoria Street in the city.

The application was made following a serious attack in the early hours of Sunday May 23, which left a 27-year-old man with severe facial injuries.

At a hearing on Friday, May 28, the Licensing Panel concluded it was ‘necessary’ and ‘proportionate’ to suspend the premises licence.

A hearing will take place within the next 28 days; meanwhile the Licensing Panel will fully review Tantra’s licence and determine whether any further steps need to be taken.

A 30 year old man, Gilmand Telharaj, of no fixed abode has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent in connection with the attack.

He has been remanded into custody and will appear at Nottingham Crown Court on June 9, 2010.
