A 24 year old man has been left in a critical condition in hospital after he was shot in the early hours of Boxing Day in the St Anns area of Nottingham.
The incident happened near Westville Gardens at around 1.20am where police believe a number of shots were fired.
The man was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre where he has been undergoing emergency surgery, his condition is described as critical.
Police have cordoned off a paved and grass covered area where the shooting took place while forensic tests are carried out; no arrests have been made and there have been no reports of any other injuries.
An appeal by police for partygoers at a nearby property has seen more than 20 people help officers with their enquiries, however police are keen to talk to another 10 revellers present at the bash.
Detective Chief Inspector Tony Heydon, who is leading the investigation said, “We know there was a party taking place at an address in Westville Gardens late on Christmas Day and in the early hours of Boxing Day.
“We would like to speak to anyone who was at that party who has not yet been in contact with the investigation team.”
“Although this is an isolated incident, a man is critically ill in hospital and it is vital that anyone who was at the party or in the area around 1am contacts us as a matter of urgency.”
House to house enquiries are on-going and officers are interviewing witnesses and examining CCTV footage to gain a better picture of events surrounding the shooting.
A dedicated incident room has been set up at St Ann’s Police Station.
