Get Your Recycled Christmas Gifts

By Ben Aulakh

People in the Midlands are being encouraged to waste less and recycle their unwanted furniture and electrical goods.

A handy A5 guide from Worcestershire County Council gives information on how to reuse old household goods; as part of the ‘Let’s Waste Less’ brand.

The guide has been designed to help prevent waste going unnecessarily to landfill by listing voluntary, charitable and community organisations who recycle unwanted items.

Cllr Anthony Blagg, cabinet member for Waste and Sustainability said, “Donating unwanted household items prevents valuable resources going to landfill.

It also saves energy and raw materials involved in the production process of new goods.”

It’s also hoped the guide could help to divert some unwanted items into people’s Christmas stockings, as the guide lists organisations that sell on recycled goods at bargain prices.

Cllr Blagg added, “This new guide to reuse is a great way to find those perfect Christmas gifts without breaking the bank.

“As well as having an environmental purpose, many of these organisations also provide support to the elderly, people with disabilities and those from less well-off backgrounds.”
